Equipment Donation Day
In June 2009, with the help of the Californian and KSBW and local business leaders, our most productive SplinterWALK Project was launched. The outpouring from the community was overwhelming and humbling. In the end over $1800, 100 bats, 75 gloves, 50 pairs of cleats, 200 baseballs and numerous other pieces of equipment was donated and provided to local leagues.
Operation Christmas Child
Done annually starting in late October Operation Christmas Child is with Samaritans Purse’s worldwide program. (samaritanspurse.com). These gifts are distributed to kids in countries where receiving gifts at Christmas not a reality. Our SplinterWALK Project helped our players take an inventory of the things they have to be grateful for.
Baseball Day at FPC, with Toronto Blue Jay Aaron Hill
In December 2007 First Presbyterian Church in Salinas hosted a Splinters Baseball Camp with Aaron Hill, the Toronto Blue Jay second baseman Aaron Hill. Aaron Was recently selected to his first All Star game and was previously the Futures game MVP. The $1600 raised with this camp was donated to FPC as well as two families within the church dealing with difficult times and to the church.
Skills Development Assessment with American Little League
American Little League offered Splinters the opportunity to introduce our revised tryout system to their players and coaches. It was a great success as over 30 players and approximately 10 coaches participated in this event. There was no cost to the league or players.
All Skills Camp at National Little League
Splinters Baseball provided an all skills camp for the players of National little league. This became a SplinterWALK Project as there was absolutely no charge to the league or players. Over 40 players participated in this camp and it directly led to the Equipment donation day.
